My whisky, tears and ink
Begin to coalesce
At the base of my heart.
My heart begins to sink,
The reason I can guess.
It's because we're apart.
My whisky, your ink, my tears.
I never want you to see
The misery in my eyes.
Behind closed doors, reappears
Whilst reading your notes to me,
Contemplating our goodbyes.
Never! My whisky, my ink, your tears.
I couldn't risk upsetting you,
You are far too precious to me.
My duty: To wash away your fears,
Give support in the things you do,
Above all, make sure you're happy.
My whisky, my tears, this ink,
Have all but dried and vanished,
Except drops that stain this sheet
And the remnants of my drink.
Writing these words unblemished,
Whilst drunk, was no easy feat.
